I know y’all immediately got excited by the word “booze” in the title of my blog, but this blog is not solely going to be about my love of all things alcohol. Growing up, my dad and brother called me Booze as a cute nickname inspired by a star running back for the Jets in the 60s, Emerson Boozer. I never thought my nickname was strange, but whenever my dad or brother would call me Booze in public, we definitely got some weird looks. So even though you thought this whole blog would be about cooking with booze, you’re going to be cooking with Booze (with a capital B).
My passion for food stems from Wednesday night dinners with my Italian grandma (Gram). As soon as I was old enough to stand, I had my own stool in the kitchen so I could watch her cook. Her signature dishes included lasagna, pasta and meatballs, pork chops, Italian sausage soup, and Christmas cookies. My fondest memories of cooking with my grandma were rolling nut gem cookies in powdered sugar when they were still warm and making indents in jelly cookies with my tiny thumb. Now that she has passed, I am glad I can still connect with her through the kitchen.
Now that I have accumulated a decent amount of food knowledge, I am ready to share my favorite recipes and restaurants with a wider audience. My style of cooking involves a lot of pasta and multiple glasses of $8 wine. My food philosophy is that you can make anything tasty with olive oil, garlic, and red pepper flakes. To balance out the copious amounts of pasta and wine, I also cook with local produce and exercise regularly. I am an avid runner, but I only run so that I can eat more.
On this blog you are going to find simple, flavorful recipes so easy that anyone can pull them off. I am by no means a professional chef, I cook whatever I am craving that day. If I don’t feel like cooking on a given day, I can walk down the street to some of the best restaurants in the country. I currently live in Charleston, SC and it is the perfect city for foodies. There are plenty of food-based events and unique restaurants that will spark any foodie’s imagination.
