My First Catch and Cook with a Sea Trout

That’s right, I’m down with the fisherman lingo! Actually, Christian is the fisherman, and he’s the one who caught the fish, I just sat and drank on the boat while he caught it. The cooking though, that was all me. I have always grown up with catch and release with fishing, but when Christian finally caught a fish that was big enough to eat, we decided to go for it. I’ve watched enough pro chefs filet a fish on TV, so I figured I could do it. Spoiler: the TV chefs make it look easy.

Make-Ahead Breakfast Bites feat. Riceland Foods

*This is a sponsored post written on behalf of Riceland Foods. All opinions are 100% my own.*

Happy Holidays everyone! I am so excited to go home and spend time with my family. When my parents were in town recently, they were asking me about ideas for breakfast on Christmas morning. In my family, we keep it simple on Christmas morning with cinnamon rolls and mimosas. The cinnamon rolls only keep us full for so long, so we need something hearty in order to keep pounding the mimosas while opening presents. My make-ahead breakfast bites featuring Riceland Foods medium-grain brown rice are the perfect solution for this holiday hunger dilemma. Keep reading to find out more about this easy, make-ahead recipe!

Eating Local: Truffled Lobster Ravioli with Lemon Butter Sauce

Now that summer is approaching (or already here?) the local Farmers Markets are back in full swing and I’m ready to give them all of my money. Although my last statement sounds like I’m trying to ball out, my actual goal is to save money. Supporting these local farms and buying high quality products will hopefully encourage me to eat at home more often.

Shrimp Noodle Bowl with Homemade Ginger Dressing

Now that spring has finally arrived, it’s time to say goodbye to comforting soups and pastas and hello to fresh, bright dishes to get us through the hot Charleston days. For this recipe, I was inspired by a dish that pretty much got me through college, the Saigon Noodle salad from Fire Street Food. Their salad has rice noodles, crunchy cucumbers, grilled chicken, and a sweet and spicy dressing that makes it a light, yet satisfying meal. I don’t live as close to Fire anymore, so I decided I needed to try and make this dish at home, with a few twists of my own. My shrimp noodle bowl is fresh, bright, and perfect for a light lunch.

Hearty Italian Sausage Soup

Snowmageddon is heading to Charleston, which means it’s time to hunker down with my hearty Italian sausage soup. The first time I made this soup was with my grandma and I clearly remember her scolding me for not crumbling up the sausage properly (she had to take over). Breaking up the sausage is really the only elbow grease this recipe requires, the rest is just adding the ingredients to the pot. This soup is sure to keep you warm as we all watch the 3 flakes of snow hit the ground in Charleston.

Last-Minute Thanksgiving Dessert: Boozy Chocolate Trifle

As you could probably guess, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. It is all about food and family and it’s the one time I can eat as much canned cranberry sauce as I like without judgement. Every year, my dad whips up a quick, easy, and boozy Thanksgiving trifle and I help him out. It’s only 5 ingredients and you could probably make it in the car on your way over to your family’s house; that’s how easy it is. It is sinfully simple, mostly because of the addition of the Kahlua. We are Cookin’ with Booze: Thanksgiving style!

Chicken with Parsley, Mushrooms, and French Onion Potatoes

This is one of my mom’s signature dishes that my sister and I both request whenever we are home. We keep dinners pretty healthy in the DeVoe household, but for this recipe, my mom would always pull out all the stops. The chicken is sauteed in an ungodly amount of butter, the potatoes are coated in oil and salty french onion goodness to ensure maximum craveability, and the parsley gives you the illusion that you’re eating your greens.

Roasted Butternut Squash Salad with Apple Cider Vinaigrette

This year, I volunteered for the Green Heart Project as a Green Heart Buddy. Even though I have a lot of food-related knowledge, I am pretty much clueless when it comes to gardening. I have attempted and failed to raise a few plants of my own, one of which was stolen and the other one is still somehow surviving. Luckily for me, my role as a Green Heart Buddy gave me the opportunity to learn alongside the kiddos in each lesson and really learn the process of growing your own food. I got to see this butternut squash salad made from start to finish, which is really satisfying for me.

4-Ingredient Patriotic Fruit Pizza: Happy Birthday America!

This 4th, I decided to keep dessert on the lighter side with my Aunt Barb’s fruit pizza, patriotic style. When she would make this for me as a kid, she would usually cover it in a rainbow assortment of fruit, but I am sticking to red, white, and blue today because ‘murica. Making this fruit pizza will help you stay relaxed and patriotic this 4th of July, and isn’t that what we all want?
