Y’all know I perk up whenever I hear talk of a new happy hour. I have been to the Grocery once for my 20th birthday brunch (tbt) and I had a decadent stuffed french toast that was bomb. Since I didn’t get to have a boozy brunch back then, I made up for it by checking out their new happy hour, which runs from 5-7pm Sunday-Thursday. All the food is $5 and under and the drinks are $6 a piece. For $6, you can normally get a vodka soda that’s mostly soda, but The Grocery is serving up complex cocktails on the cheap and I’m all about it!
How I Ate and Drank My Way Through Austin in 3 Days
Howdy, y’all. On our Labor Day weekend trip to Austin, we were lucky enough to be hosted by Christian’s brother Devin, who showed us the sights, most of which were the inside of bars and restaurants. Before I went to Austin, I only had two goals: eat my body weight in Tex Mex and have a big ol’ Texas brisket. I’m glad to say I accomplished both goals and we had so much fun (maybe a little too much). If you want to learn more about all my food-related shenanigans over Labor Day weekend, keep on readin’.

My 7 Favorite Shows on Food Network
I have mentioned my dad and my grandma as important influences on my love of food, but there is a third player in the mix that I have yet to highlight: Food Network. Growing up, I remember sitting way too close to the TV (mostly because I had terrible eyesight and no one seemed to realize) and watching Iron Chef America, Mario Batali, and Emeril. I remember always being jealous of the people who got to taste the food and I still hold that jealousy to this day. I still watch Food Network religiously, but now I watch it for a different purpose. My subconscious thought is that if I watch enough of it, I can find out how to get myself on there. Consciously, I just love the drama of the shows that are on nowadays (looking at you, Chopped).
Food Fire Knives: Five Star Food Without Leaving the House
They say surrounding yourself with good people will make you happier, but have you ever tried surrounding yourself with people who win a lot of Instagram contests? Hear me out. My friend/ fellow food blogger Sydney is the Queen of social media, especially Instagram. She entered this contest on Instagram from Food Fire Knives and won us a 3 course meal cooked by a private chef in my very own home! I was mostly included in the deal because my house is more central than hers, but obviously I jumped on board. We had a great night and I felt like a fancy bish having a private chef in my very own home!

Foodie Fails: Paula Deen’s Salty Collard Greens
When I was 12 years old, my family moved from upstate NY to North Carolina and started the transition into “southern” life. Shortly after the move, our neighbors invited us over to their house to watch a football game and they were cooking up all the southern fixins’, so we figured we would contribute one of our own and spoiler alert, it didn’t go well…

Cocktail of the Week: The Seasonal Cooler from On Forty One
As you already know, my cocktail of choice is anything featuring tequila, citrus, and maybe some spice thrown in there. Although I love these kinds of drinks, I often get out of that comfort zone, especially when a restaurant is doing something special with their cocktail program. At On Forty One, they make the sodas for their cocktails in house. This gives them the freedom to switch up their drinks and infuse unique flavors. In the case of the Seasonal Cooler, it features their homemade Strawberry Rosemary soda and gin, which is a perfectly refreshing drink to sip on their patio. Behind the Scenes at Rusty Bull Brewing
Walking into the industrial-grade brewery that is Rusty Bull Brewing, you would never expect that the business got its start in a garage about 11 years ago. Co-owners Ben & Brian have a passion for creating a range of craft beers for every kind of beer drinker. Whether it’s a classic Belgian Ale or a Captain Crunch-inspired beer, they have something for everyone. I was lucky enough to get a tour of the facilities while sippin’ on some delicious brews, so I’ll share some tidbits that I learned along the way with you.
Tavern & Table Welcomes New Menu & Chef
I have been to Tavern & Table twice before I attended this new menu preview. The first time, I was deathly hungover from Charleston Affair and sitting in the warm sun and drinking their Vanilla Coconut Coffee cocktail by the water rejuvenated me/my soul. The second time I went was with my boyfriend’s coworkers and we all split a ton of apps, which is my favorite way to eat. Of the shared plates, our favorites were the Dynamite Shrimp and the Burnt End Mac and Cheese (shocker). As Tavern & Table welcomes their new executive chef, Ray England, along with a new menu, I am happy to see that the dishes I had are still there, with a new twist to them. The updated menu has me excited to keep coming back to kick back, relax, and share food with friends by the water.
HoM Introduces New Boozy Brunch Items
I don’t think there are two words that excite me (and most Charlestonians) more than booze and brunch. HoM is known for their happy hour, great burgers, and epic ping pong games. They are bringing that same excitement to the brunch crowd by adding their own twist to classic brunch favorites such as mimosas and brunch burgers. Keep reading to find out what these twists are!
Eating Local: Truffled Lobster Ravioli with Lemon Butter Sauce
Now that summer is approaching (or already here?) the local Farmers Markets are back in full swing and I’m ready to give them all of my money. Although my last statement sounds like I’m trying to ball out, my actual goal is to save money. Supporting these local farms and buying high quality products will hopefully encourage me to eat at home more often.
