Cocktail of the Week: The Seasonal Cooler from On Forty One

As you already know, my cocktail of choice is anything featuring tequila, citrus, and maybe some spice thrown in there. Although I love these kinds of drinks, I often get out of that comfort zone, especially when a restaurant is doing something special with their cocktail program. At On Forty One, they make the sodas for their cocktails in house. This gives them the freedom to switch up their drinks and infuse unique flavors. In the case of the Seasonal Cooler, it features their homemade Strawberry Rosemary soda and gin, which is a perfectly refreshing drink to sip on their patio.

In addition to the Seasonal Cooler, we also tried their Spicy Paloma with mezcal, tequila, thyme, and homemade grapefruit soda. You would think this would be my cocktail of the week because it’s right up my alley, but I’m a mezcal hater, and I’m not afraid to admit it. The homemade grapefruit soda, however, I could drink by the gallon and wasn’t too bitter thanks to the simple syrup.

While you’re sippin on the Seasonal Cooler, make sure to split some apps. My favorite of the ones we tried were the Fried Oyster Deviled Eggs. The homemade mustard added a nice tang to the rich fried oyster and creamy deviled egg. Definitely one of the best plates of Deviled Eggs I’ve had!

Don’t sleep on the Nachos or the Truffle Fries as well! As you can already tell because they’re covered in cheese, the Truffle Fries were a real hit with our group. They had a rich, earthy flavor that kept us coming back for more. The Nachos were covered in 12-hour smoked pork and a smoky-sweet bourbon barbecue sauce. The perfect bite was getting the pork, a jalapeño, and scooping up the cheese sauce. If I got a big bite of jalapeño, the Seasonal Cooler calmed the fire in my mouth!

On Forty One is located pretty deep in Mount Pleasant, but I would drive back out there in a heartbeat for their food/cocktails. Their GM/ Head Bartender Paul is the brains behind the cocktails and he does a great job combining unique flavors. He also could spot that I was the drinker of the group the moment we sat down, so he knows what’s up. I’ve also heard their brunch is amazing, so I’ll be back!
