Grand Opening of MidiCi Mount Pleasant: Free Margheritas for Everyone

This past week/weekend, I had the opportunity to attend a Yelp Event at MidiCi Mount Pleasant and then subsequently their grand opening. MidiCi is not your average pizza place. When you walk in, you are greeted with the ambiance of a high end restaurant. There is mood lighting, a live tree, plenty of seating, and bathrooms that basically look like a spa. To match the high end ambiance, they also have high quality food.

Free Pizza= best marketing strategy

For their grand opening, they enticed customers to visit their restaurant by offering free margherita pizzas all weekend long (genius). When I arrived at Midici on Saturday night, there was a line out the door of pizza lovers waiting to get their pies. They even braved the rain at one point so that they could get their pizza, so they were dedicated fans.

The ovens

Their pizzas are made in authentic Neapolitan wood-fired ovens. It is about 1000 degrees in the oven (no exaggeration), so the pizzas cook in about 90 seconds. The process was described to me and there it a lot of precision that goes into it. It’s basically a Goldilocks situation where you have to cook the pizza just right, or you end up with a torn crust or burnt bottom.

the pies

They serve a number of speciality pizzas, but you can also customize your own toppings. I tried the Devil’s Pizza (Pizza Diavola), the Four Cheese Pizza (Quattro Formaggio), and the classic Margherita pizza. The Devil’s pizza was spicy, but the fresh mozzarella cooled it down. I also snuck some burrata onto the Devil’s pizza for the perfect bite (which I think should be a new menu item).

The Quattro Formaggio had more flavor than I expected it to and the cheeses (ricotta, mozzarella, gorgonzola, Parmesan) really complemented each other. The classic Margherita allowed you to taste the freshness of the ingredients. You could even add more fresh basil from their toppings bar if you wanted to.

whole lotta burrata

Aside from pizzas, there is a wide variety of appetizers, burrata, salad, and of course dessert options. I had the pleasure of trying the burrata with prosciutto and melon. When I studied abroad in Italy, prosciutto and melon was my favorite snack, so I was pumped to try this. The burrata added a creamy dreamy texture to the dish, so it was a welcome addition to the classic dish for me.

a sweet finish

For dessert, I had their signature Nutella calzone with fresh berries. The dough was light and the filling was chocolately, but also a little tangy from the berries. It was honestly addicting and if I hadn’t eaten so much pizza beforehand, I could’ve devoured a few of them.

If you are looking for somewhere to eat in Mount Pleasant, definitely check out Midici. They are using fresh ingredients and they have a menu that can suit anyone’s needs. I know I will be going back soon for some more Nutella calzones.
