Millers All Day: Brunch Lovers Rejoice

I am a firm believer that breakfast foods can and should be served at all hours of the day. As Ron Swanson once said: “There is no sadness that cannot be cured by breakfast food.” Charleston is a city that is conducive to getting your breakfast in the late afternoon on Saturdays and Sundays, but few places make it available every day. Enter: Millers All Day. They are serving up breakfast all day every day and also a drink menu that can transfer your Sunday Funday to any day of the week. If you’re a fellow breakfast lover, you have to check this place out.

Wake up, Drank

Whether you’re actually going for brunch or hitting Millers on the late night, they have a drink for the occasion. Their drink menu ranges from mimosas and Bloody Marys to classic cocktails with a slight brunchy twist. Their Frozen Brunch Punch is the perfect example of taking a cocktail one would regret drinking at night, but making it lighter and less sweet to start your day off right. I really was expecting this tiki-looking drink to be really sweet, but the bitters, lime, and ginger balance it out and it is very easy drinking (maybe a little too easy).

In addition to their Brunch Punch, I tried their Verde Bloody Mary, which had tequila, ancho reyes verde, tomatillo, jalapeño, and lime. I really liked it because it reminded me of salsa verde. It was refreshing and I didn’t get the sharp aftertaste of alcohol like you usually do with a Bloody Mary.

Bring on the Breakfast

I feel like there’s a divide between people who eat savory things for breakfast and those who go for sweet. I can do both, but I normally lean toward the savory side and steal bites from people who got the sweet options. Millers All Day got their name from the 175 year- old grit mill they have in the front of the store, so I figured I had to get the grit bowl of the day.

The grit bowl that day was their Unicorn Grits with escarole, butter beans, chow chow, and I added an egg to it. The Unicorn Grits were unique because they were pink! We learned that they preserve the beautiful color of the grits by adding lemon juice to the dish and the acidity was certainly welcome to contrast the rich grits.

On the sweet side of the restaurant, they have waffles, pancakes, and pie for dessert. We tried the waffles and they were some of the best waffles I’ve ever had. They were topped with bananas, caramel, popped sorghum, and a fluffy meringue. The caramel wasn’t too sweet and the popped sorghum added a great crunch to the top.

Happy Hour + Brunch Unite

Happy Hour and Brunch are two sought-after food events and at Millers you can knock them out in one place. Their Happy Hour features discounted drinks and a few food options as well. I had heard about their bacon, egg, and cheese from other people, and it definitely lived up to the hype. The bun was buttery and soft, the egg was runny, and the cheese was perfectly melted.

The Bacon Jacks are not to be overlooked on the Happy Hour menu. They took the taste of dipping bacon in maple syrup (don’t act like you’ve never done it) and made it into popcorn. This stuff is so addicting that they should have a disclaimer on their menu. The addiction is worth it though because it is sweet and salty heaven.

If you’re looking to get your brunch fix and want to try somewhere new, Millers is the place to go. Try going on a random weekday so that you miss the lines of people who think brunch is limited to Sunday. Happy Brunchin’, y’all.
