Cocktail of the Week: Sichuan Sting from Xiao Bao Biscuit

When I visited Xiao Bao Biscuit for the first time, I was on a mission to get out of my cocktail comfort zone (AKA tequila) and try something completely new. I definitely accomplished that, because the cocktail I chose came with a warning from the waitress. She told me, “this may sting a little,” (hence the name Sichuan Sting) and I still went for it anyway.

Indaco: A Pasta Lover’s Dream

Last week was my 2 year anniversary with my boyfriend, so we had to pick somewhere special for dinner. We are both pasta fanatics (idk who isn’t), so I knew that Italian was definitely the move. I have heard great reviews of Indaco from the grape vine, so I figured we should check it out. I also happened to meet one of the chefs at Indaco at the Pitmaster Throwdown, so the food from that reinforced the positive vibes I was already getting.

R Kitchen: Foodie Heaven

This was my second dining experience at R Kitchen, and I will definitely keep going back. It’s the perfect restaurant for adventurous foodies because you don’t know what’s on the menu until you get there. It’s a 5 course, small plate menu for the flat rate of $30. For the dining experience you get, $30 is a bargain. The menu is completely dependent on seasonal and local products, so you know you’re getting a quality product.

Xiao Bao Biscuit: Small Plates, Big Flavors

All I have to say is: WOW. I have heard great things about Xiao Bao Biscuit, but they blew away my expectations. First off, I love that everything is eaten family style because I love trying a bunch of different dishes without having to steal from people’s plates. While I was there, I enjoyed a cocktail that made my mouth tingly (in a good way) and some damn good dumplings. Warning: this post will make you hungry.

Dinner at 1Kept Charleston: A New Take on Southern Classics

Remember when I was bragging about meeting Andrew Zimmern at a 1Kept Charleston event? Yea, this is the same restaurant where I met him. This time, we were here solely for the food and not just to down some cocktails (whoops). Anyway, the Queen of the Food Age and I were treated to a wonderful meal filled with new takes on some of our favorite Charleston dishes.

Leon’s Fine Poultry and Oysters: Fine is Right

I have been wanting to try Leon’s for a while because I’ve heard great things about it, so let me pass along my thoughts to you. Leon’s is located right on King Street, but when you arrive you feel like you are tucked back from the hustle and bustle of the city. We sat on the front patio, which is seamlessly connected to the restaurant, so you don’t feel like the staff will forget about you like at other restaurants. They also have complementary parking (and valet), which is a bonus because parking is usually an issue downtown. I felt so fancy getting the valet and it was fo free, so it started the night out strong.
